Retirement Cake

John Montie Lawn & Garden Cake

Requested for the retiring owner, by his family.  This cake travelled several miles, including a ferry ride, to get to it's destination.  The roof line and small details of the building gave me a fun challenge to work with!  7 layers of cake at the heighest point!

Fondant Pig Cake Toppers

This little piggy went ...to a birthday...!

Fondant cake toppers are good fun and a nice way to decorate without having to fondant and detail an entire cake. A simply iced cake and toppers set 'just so' can look just as nice!   This little piggy was made for a very special little girl who adores these little mud bathers.  Fondant balloons and little pig bums were additional toppers for the cake.  In addition to the dressy little pig were her little piglet friends, made to look like they were diving head-first into mud, with just their little bottoms and hooves sticking out..! The idea for the little pig bottoms was inspired by another cake seen on the internet.  If I find it again, I will include the link or the name of the creator!

Cookie Jar Cake

Cookie Jar Cake...

My daughter wanted something with cookies for her birthday...This is 4 layers of chocolate cake, with oreo cookie whipped filling between each layer.  The fondant is airbrushed with a blue sheen to give the cookie jar a ceramic look, but for some reason the sparkle and sheen didn't come through in the photos...YOu'll have to use your imagination here!   The lid is also 2 layers of cake, and the cookies are real!

Map of Australia Cake

Sweet Adelaide...

My sister was moving from Canada to Adelaide, Australia earlier this year.  A goodbye send off with family and friends made the chance of any type of elaborate cake impossible!  However I could not send her off without SOME form of delicious cake to remember me by, so I quickly put together a chocolate cake with oreo cookie whipped cream filling, and chocolate ganache topping.  Royal icing outlines Australia, with a little red fondant dot marking Adelaide...!

Spaghetti and Meatballs Cake

MANGIA!
Spaghetti and Meatballs with a side of garlic bread...

This mile high plate of spaghetti could satisfy even the largest of appetites!  But of course it's not REALLY spaghetti...it is chocolate cake with raspberry mousse filling, DISGUISED as spaghetti.   I had a great time figuring out what delicious and edible foods I could use to create each topping.   The noodles are piped white chocolate buttercream.  Spaghetti sauce is a mixture of fresh raspberries, strawberry jam, and white chocolate buttercream.  The oregano is mint (side note:  I discovered, quite accidentally, that if you chop the mint up the night before, it dries quite nicely and looks exactly like dried oregano...however this is still in the 'fresh' looking stage...).   Meatballs are Ferrero Roche that I dipped in more chocolate so you wouldn't see the light colour of the hazelnuts poking through.  In hindsight...I could have used remnants of the chocolate cake and shaped cake balls for meatballs;  however, I absolutely love Ferrero Roche and when I decided to make this cake, they were the first thing to pop into my head!  The parmesean is shaved white chocolate.  Garlic bread is angel food cake, broiled in the oven briefly and then 'buttered' with white chocolate buttercream while still hot.   I must say, hot, crispy angel food cake with melted butter cream is quite delicious!!  I made extra as a treat for my kids!
This cake was made for my friend's husband Barry (which is why you see the little menu card in the background entitled "Barry's Trattoria").   The tongue-in-cheek dinner special is  "Spaghetti con Ferrero" ;-)  ...the price was 5.70 euros as a) Barry was turning 57, and b)  euros seemed more an appropriate choice than dollars because hey, it's Italian!  And THAT'S Amore!
