Man's Torso Cake

Dude with a 6-pack

I was delighted to have the opportunity to create an anatomy cake - this is a first for me.  While it proved challenging, it was great fun attempting impressive pecs, abs, and well...various other outstanding features!!  Thanks to Corrinne for asking for this cake - and Happy 40th Birthday to Mary!

And yes, for those of you who are curious (you know who you are), I have included a photo of this somewhat anatomically correct man 'sans briefs' below...

Warning, you should be 18 years or older to view the next photo...  ;-)

  1. Hey!

I plan to do this cake too. I have some questions. Hopefully you answer :)

Could you tell me how many bisquits you baked?
And a filling is made? :)

It seems quite heavy cake. How much does it weight?

    1. Hi there! I baked 3 sheet cakes (although I only used 2 for the body and a very small part of the 3rd for the abs and pecs...could have made a much smaller cake for those bits).

The penis is made out of cereal treats, covered in chocolate ganache and then fondant.

Yes, it was a large cake...I didn't actually weigh it, which is funny because I often do on my bigger cakes!

As it is 2 sheet cakes, I used a vanilla buttercream between the layers. I shaped it first, filled it, covered it in chocolate ganache, and then added cake pieces for pecs and abs and covered them in ganache to smooth everything out.

      Does that help! :-)

I'm happy to answer any questions you have!

    2. How you did the vanilla buttercream?

  2. 1 cup butter, tbsp vanilla, tbsp of milk, bag of icing sugar (not the whole bag)...I just kind of add til it is the right consistency...add more milk when necessary...!

    1. Hi Maria,
I did mine laying down - the penis is actually made out of cereal treats, covered in chocolate ganache and then fondant. To do one standing up, I'd recommend using either gumpaste or fondant with some tylose in it to really harden it so it doesn't flop over (ha). Or you could shape it with cereal treats and cover with fondant and put a wooden dowel, or straw through the base of it and the cake to stabilize it...

      Does that help?!

  6. Hi there, my apologies for the late response! I basically printed off a copy of a man's torso to use as my outline. I baked a large sheet cake (two layers) and sculpted the general form from the outline. From the left over pieces, I added some "abs" and 'pecs". Then, covered in chocolate ganached, and smoothed it until it all looked like one solid form. I love working with chocolate ganache because you can add more chocolate or smooth away what isn't working! Just use 2 round pieces for the pecs and some small long pieces for ab marks. The..er...appendage (ha ha), I made out of rice krispie treats! Just shaped it as best I could and covered it in chocolate ganache before fondanting. Let me know if you need further clarification and I will try to respond much faster! Good luck! I'd love to see a photo of your cake when done! :-)

  7. Hi their :)
I wanted to ask if it would work out the same if i was to use sugar icing instead of the chocolate Ganache ?

  8. Sorry Maricruz! Somehow I'm not getting notifications when comments are sent...I realize this is coming back to you far too late...you could use sugar icing...I just find ganache can be smoothed so easily and makes for a very nice finished product. Sugar icing is more fiddly, but you can certainly use it! Hope your cake was fantastic!
